That Was Easy! Building a House with Everyday Tools and Equipment

Updated: Jul 11, 2023

Building a house with sustainable materials has become a growing trend among environmentally-conscious homeowners. Agriboard Green Building Systems™ mills, which create construction material made from compressed agricultural fibers, have gained popularity for their eco-friendly properties. One notable advantage of using Agriboard™ panels is that they can be easily constructed with everyday tools, making it accessible for "Do It Yourself" enthusiasts or those with limited construction experience. The ease of construction and pre-engineering also makes our panelized homes perfect for disaster relief, when there are never enough contractors and builders to go around, but people need housing immediately.

Let’s explore building an Agriboard house with everyday tools and how it can be a straightforward and achievable project.

First, it is important to understand that Agriboard panels are lightweight and can normally be handled by two people. They can be easily assembled with basic tools that can be found at any local hardware store like Lowes or Home Depot.

The following three items are really the only tools that you absolutely must have:

A ladder (Scaffolding can be useful, but regular ladders work just fine)

A power drill to screw the panels in place A level

This is why our Agriboard panels are perfect for disaster relief. Volunteers built these homes pictured below in Haiti, after a devastating earthquake. Many of the volunteers had almost no construction knowledge prior to the build.

They are also perfect for Mission Trips. Volunteers built these homes pictured below in Mexico, some with very little to no experience.

We always say that using Agriboard panels is "A Smarter Way to Build" but we also see here that it is "An Easier Way to Build!"
